GET CONNECTED WITH ANDROID AUTO TM. Hyundai has been at the forefront of the effort to link the power and possibilities of smartphones to the needs of drivers – from introducing Android Auto TM, to offering this advanced technology in an ever-growing array of our vehicles.
Hyundai confirmed it is adding smartphone integration updates to several more existing models, via do-it-yourself installation. The software update to make the headunits compatible with CarPlay and Android Auto is now available at no cost. It requires a map update via an SD Card.
The following models are eligible for the update:
- 2015/2016 Hyundai Azera with Navigation.
- 2016 Hyundai Sonata Hybrid with Navigation.
- 2016 Hyundai Veloster with Navigation.
- 2016 Hyundai Sonata Plug-In Hybrid with Navigation.
2017 Santa Fe and Santa Fe Sport are now being built with both CarPlay and Android Auto support and will arrive at dealerships soon. All other 2017 model Hyundai vehicles with eligible Display Audio or Navigation systems include both smartphone integration solutions from launch.
To complete the software upgrade, owners need their VIN number and the SD card from their Navigation system. MyHyundai.com has installation guides to walk customers through the process.

CarPlay requires an iPhone with a lightning connector and iOS 7 or higher. Android requires and Android phone with Android 5.0 Lollipop or higher, a Bluetooth connection and the cable that came with the phone. If you ask Siri while connected to CarPlay, “What can Siri do?” She replies “You can ask me to get directions find businesses, make phone calls play music and check or send texts and emails. I can show you lots more when you’re not driving.”
Android Auto brings Android into the car for music, messaging Google Maps, calendar integration and phone functions using the touchscreen or “Ok Google” through the voice button.
Hyundai owners who have been anxiously awaiting the update to Android Auto and CarPlay can put their VIN number into the Hyundai VIN validation web portal to check to makes sure it compatible.
Upgrade Times – Times are dependent on Internet speed is 1-3 hours for computer download, software upload inside the vehicle takes 40 minutes and all updates require map updating using an SD Card.
If a customer does not wish to complete the software download and upload procedure on their own, they can take their vehicle into their local dealer. The dealer will charge the customer a fee for the labor required to install the software

Fountain Valley, Calif., Aug. 8, 2016 – Hyundai is adding smartphone integrations to several more existing models today, via do-it-yourself installation and now has completed the rollout of smartphone integration across the 2017 model year lineup. The software update compatible with CarPlay and Android Auto is now available at no cost through MyHyundai.com (www.myhyundai.com). The software will also be available at Hyundai dealerships nationwide for an installation fee.

This is not the first time Hyundai has made a software upgrade available using the MyHyundai portal. In 2015, Hyundai became the first automaker in the world to offer Android Auto and in May 2016, Android Auto and Apple CarPlay integrations were offered as an upgrade for eight existing models via MyHyundai.com. Hyundai continues to offer a customer-focused user experience by leveraging the MyHyundai.com platform. MyHyundai.com gives customers the option to update their cars for free and on their own schedules.

HYUNDAI RELEASES DO-IT-YOURSELF INSTALLATION FOR SMARTPHONE INTEGRATIONS ON SEVERAL EXISTING MODELS
Similar to CarPlay, Android Auto helps keep drivers’ eyes and attention on the road by integrating the advanced driving-related functions of the user’s smartphone with the familiar centralized screen, physical controls and microphone of their car. Furthermore, the smartphone’s screen becomes “locked,” so drivers are not tempted to look down and interact with their phones directly, while Android Auto is in use.
Owners will need the Android 5.0 “Lollipop” operating system or later and the Android Auto companion app on their compatible phone to utilize Android Auto. A micro USB cable is required to connect the phone to the car’s USB port. The first time an owner plugs his or her phone into their parked compatible Hyundai, the phone will prompt the download of the Android Auto companion app from the Google Play store. Users of Android Auto will instantly recognize familiar Android phone applications, such as Google Maps, Google Now, messaging, phone calling and Google Play Music. These applications can be controlled by voice, steering wheel controls and touchscreen. Android Auto will also offer many popular third-party audio apps, including iHeartRadio, Spotify, TuneIn, NPR, Stitcher, Slacker, Skype, TextMe and many more.

Blue Link brings seamless connectivity directly into the car with technology like Remote Start with Climate Control, a Monthly Vehicle Health Report, Remote Door Lock/Unlock, Car Finder and Stolen Vehicle Recovery. Remote features can be accessed via Hyundai’s smartphone app or Web portal. Blue Link also features maintenance alerts and safety features, such as Automatic Collision Notification and SOS.
