Mar 06, 2011 Software installation was a bit kludgy but it works. I am running the software on a spare IBM Thinkpad T40 laptop with Windows XP. This laptop doesn't have a serial port that is need for the Carsoft kit. I use a SIIG Single-Serial PC Card that I got off ebay for 10 bucks. There is not much documentation for the software.

Easy to use and paid for itself with the 1st use.
after sitting for an extended time due to an illness my 2011 MBSL developed some weird problems the keyless system stopped working as did the power door locks and windows then the Check engine light and the ESP and ABS warning lights lit up and stayed on. I did some research online and discovered that the problem was most likely a dead auxiliary battery. I called the MB dealers parts dept. and not surprising was told that battery runs about $500 Not including labor! I also found out that just replacing the battery would not solve all the issues as you must use a diagnostic tool like this one to remove the faulty codes and dashboard check engine and other fault lights.
I decided to attempt this solution myself and save some $$$ so I ordered this scanner.
When it arrived I was impressed first with the packaging it is a high quality tool not a toy. the instructions were very clear and easy to understand. it took less than 10 minutes to have it hooked up and running diagnostics. it found the faulty codes which did indicate a faulty battery. I removed the battery took it to my local parts store and purchased an identical battery except for the MB label ( it was even manufactured in the same town in Germany as the original MB labeled battery, ( most likely the exact same factory as the original) only it cost $160 instead of $600. I installed the new battery and hooked up the scanner and again ran the diagnostic this time it showed no new fault codes and it was very simple to remove the old fault codes which is necessary to remove the check engine and other fault lights in the dash. I am very pleased with this scanner its easy to use. I paid around 175 for the scanner and 160 for the battery so overall it saved me over $500.00 from what I would have spent at the dealer.
